Shift aims to exist in the adjoining realm of physics and metaphysics, as it blurs the distinction of forms from perceptions. Exploring the disparity of an individual’s understanding of the world and the world itself, Naim aims to unravel the mental constructs of time, space, form and boundary through her surrealist structures. Using her interpretation of objects in time as a point of reference, Shift regards time as a mere representation. While originally based on illustrations of gravity, string theory, waves, and other scientific calculations, these sculptures are slightly shifted off-axis to contradict the realist impression of objects and spacetime.
